Support Senator Rose's Senate Bill S 1270
Under current South Carolina law, property owners having previously owned a property that was assessed at 6% can receive a rebate of two years of the difference between the 6% and 4% taxes upon approval. Since previous years' taxes were already spent for the County and School Districts, the rebated amount must come from unplanned annual County budgets and School budgets. Dorchester County had to rebate millions of dollars in 2009 due to this law.
Senator Rose's S 1270, already approved unanimously by the Senate, is yet to be reviewed by the full House as the bill is being held up by both House Representatives Annette Young and Jim Merrill for what many believe to be a personal vendetta against Senator Mike Rose. It is high time to get personal agendas and personalities out of our State Government.
With only two weeks remaining in this General Assembly calendar year, please contact Annette Young and Jim Merrill to get this bill on the House floor for an up or down vote. The Dorchester County Council passed a Resolution in support of S 1270 as requested by both Dorchester County County Auditor and Dorchester County Treasurer.
