HARGETT GAINS WOMEN BACKING

Dorchester County Councilman Larry Hargett got a special late Valentine gift Tuesday night prior to the County Council meeting. He was presented signed lists of 154 women in Dorchester County supporting him, called "Ladies for Larry".

The names were collected over the weekend in a spontaneous
initiative. A group of 12 women circulating these papers reported it was fairly easy to obtain the signatures backing Councilman Hargett in his race for the State House 98 district presently held by Annette Young.

Citizens are very concerned with the legislative bodies in both Columbia and Washington. The women signing the petitions often stated that our children and grandchildren are the ones who will foot the bill for mis-management of budgets and spending in South Carolina and the Nation. In addition, many of our children in South Carolina are being denied opportunities due to cuts in education funding and the "Ladies for Larry" lay this at the feet of our incumbents in Columbia who have engaged in wild spending during the past several years.

Councilman Hargett, who is running on the theme "Restoring
Representation" for the State House District #98 seat, said that he was encouraged by the outpouring of support among women in Dorchester County and pledged to work with them in restoring some sanity to the spending and budget process in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
